Summary

Bean pots are a Boston icon going back to its history as the home of Boston baked beans. One of Boston's nicknames is Beantown. This ceramic bean pot is one of two presented to the first official City of Melbourne delegation to visit Boston in 1985 as part of the formalities to establish the sister city relationship between the cities. The pots were signed by the Mayor of Boston, Raymond Flynn (Mayor from 1984 to 1993) and members of the Boston City Council. The annual Beanpot Hockey Tournament, featuring four of Boston's leading colleges and universities: Harvard, Boston College, Boston University and Northeastern University, is the highlight of the Boston winter sporting calendar.
