Summary

Location: Cnr Elliot Ave and Flemington Road, Royal Park, Parkville 'Fruition' is an artwork resembling a pair of oversized seed pods crafted from corten steel, a kind of metal that forms a protective layer of rust oxide when exposed to the elements. Matthew Harding’s artwork was commissioned as part of the City of Melbourne Public Art Program call for expressions of interest for new public artworks in 2011. Royal Park was chosen as the site for 'Fruition', as Harding aimed to reflect on the natural landscape of Royal Park, which is bounded and bisected by a busy network of roads and tram tracks that add an urban overlay to the park's natural soundscape.
