Summary

Location: Treasury Gardens, cnr Spring St and Wellington Pde Stone hitching post set in concrete. In the Treasury Gardens opposite Flinders Lane is an octagonal stone mounted on an octagonal base. On top of the stone is a metal ring. The inscription on the plaque informs us that this hitching post was originally set in the west kerb of Spring Street outside number 85 and is typical of hitching posts located in the streets of early Melbourne prior to 1900. The post was removed to the present site on the 26th February, 1971.
