Summary

The timepiece for the clocktower was installed in 1874. The workings were made in London; well-known Melbourne clockmaker Thomas Gaunt failed to win the job. Generations of Melburnians, even in the mobile-phone age, have been grateful for its accuracy while dashing to an appointment, a rendezvous or a Town Hall event.
