Summary

Stainless steel Hecla 'Auto-Safety' electric kettle with bakelite handle and three bakelite feet. Its provenance is unknown but the kettle is likely to be connected with Melbourne Town Hall. Paula Balla used the kettle in her exhibition, Incident in Swanston Street, at City Gallery in 2012. The company Hecla Electrics Pty. Ltd. was registered in 1922 and was based in Bourke Street. In 1927 their factory was built in Chapel Street, South Yarra. The building was demolished in the 1980s.
