Lord mayoral robe, Myer, c. 1910, rakali fur (native water rat)

Summary

A long black robe trimmed with rakali fur (native water rat) along the neckline, front opening and sleeve cuffs. Approximately twenty pelts have been used. The robe is lined with black silk satin. It has ties at the shoulders to fasten the mayoral chain. The shoulders are wide and the sleeves large, with a long panel attachment on the interior side of the sleeve. There is a row of gathered pleats at the upper central back, and two hook-and-eyes at the chest allow for the front opening to be held closed.
