Summary

Arnold was a real estate agent and auctioneer, who became a councillor in the 1870s. He also had ambitions to contribute to the parliament and said as much to a crowd of 250 people congregated in 1874. He said he had 'been induced to come forward as a candidate in consequence of having received a most numerously signed requisition' and that 'although he had never before solicited their suffrages' it was now 'his intention to go to the poll and not to stand aside for any man.'
