Summary

A sepia photograph showing a group of ten men standing outside what is likely the original North Melbourne Town Hall, which was built in 1861 and demolished by 1875 to make way for the current building. First proclaimed in 1959 North Melbourne was known as Hotham until the 26th of August 1887 when it was renamed the Town of North Melbourne. The exact date the photograph was taken is unknown, though it was likely sometime between the proclamation of the Municipality of Hotham in 1859, and August 1887 when the town was renamed North Melbourne. A negative capturing a photograph of this print is also in the collection. See Record 1757671
