Summary
In 1897, aged 30, the head plumber at the City of Melbourne, Charles Pridmore, got married. To mark the event, workmates chipped in and bought the happy couple this substantial French clock (marked ‘Medaille D'argent Vincenti’ and ‘1855’). The plaque inscription reads 'Presented to Mr Charles Pridmore by the officers of the Corporation of Melbourne On the occasion of his Marriage June 2nd 1897.' Not suprisingly, it requires a service to get it going again. Also being kindly donated to the City’s collection by Tony Lewis and other descendants of Charles Pridmore is a handsome wooden tray, given to him on his retirement in 1916. He must have been a popular man – Lord Mayors have left the place with less. He died in Camberwell in 1957.
