Summary
Rozalind Drummond is a Melbourne-based photographer who studied fine arts at the Victorian College of the Arts, completing her master’s degree in 1996. Her work, which most frequently focuses on individuals, has long been concerned with gender and the politics of the gaze, and with the psychological and sociological dimensions of her subjects.
In this untitled work from 1989, Drummond depicts the Manchester Unity Building in a multi-exposed duo-tone photograph, transforming the elegant art deco tower into a fragmented, curved and twisted edifice. Intentionally undermining the building’s architectonics, Drummond invokes a psycho-social reading of the built form and the potentially alienating experience of the city. This large photographic work was purchased for the Art and Heritage Collection in 1991.
