Summary
This photograph by Michael Woods captures the Birdman Rally in Moomba 2020. The first Birdman Rally was held during the 1976 Moomba Festival. Each year, a group of daring contestants take part in leaping across the Yarra River in their home-made aircraft. Participants raise money for charities through their involvement. Entries have been varied over the years, ranging from spacecraft to hang-gliders, to farmyard animals. The Birdman Rally remains a hugely popular event at Moomba today.
