Summary
This drawing depicts an orange caterpillar parasite wasp in flight. Most Australian native wasps live by themselves, making nests out of mud or leaves, or burrowing into the soil. Orange caterpillar parasite wasps lay their eggs on a caterpillar’s head. Wasp larvae help control pests by killing plant-eating caterpillars. The illustration was drawn by Kate Cranney for the City of Melbourne's publication 'The Little Things that Run the City'. The book explores the diversity of insects we have within our city’s boundaries and examines what we can do to help them survive and thrive.
