Summary

In the pre-internet era, posters were an important medium for political and social advocacy and information dissemination. Melbourne's poster collectives such as Another Planet Posters (which later became RedPlanet Press) voiced the concerns of grassroots art and activism movements, including environmentalism. Women were at the forefront of poster making in Australia in the 1980s. This poster by Carole Wilson reflects growing community concern about the environment. It was first produced in 1989 and displayed on 100 billboard sites across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. This image won the prestigious Special Jury Prize at the 1992 3rd Chaumant Poster Festival in France before being reissued as a poster by RedPlanet in 1992.
