Summary

This framed original photograph was presented to the City of Melbourne by the late Mrs G.B. Denton. The photograph was given to Mrs Denton's grandfather by Burke shortly before his departure with Wills in the expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria in August 1860 which resulted in their death. The back of the photograph bears the word 'Burke' which is believed to be the handwriting of the explorer himself.
