Summary

This image was created by Lachlan MacDowall and displayed using a lightbox in the 2022 City Gallery exhibition 'Off the Grid: Invader and Melbourne Street Art in the early 2000s.' The text below is written by the exhibition curator, Lachlan MacDowall.

"Sydney artist Andy Uprock installing a work on the exterior of Section 8 bar in Tattersalls Lane. Section 8 began as a temporary venue based out of a shipping container, becoming a focal point for Melbourne street art and live music. The artist’s uses his “cuprocking” technique to produce large geometric designs by placing disposable plastic cups in the gaps of chain-link fences, then adding a burst of spray paint. At night, lit by ambient lighting, the cups function like mini-lanterns, glowing with colour." - Lachlan MacDowall, 2024
