Summary

This concrete handprint and footprint was formerly located as a part of the iconic McEwans celebrity pavement. Between 1972 and 1994, scores of celebrities had their handprints and footprints immortalised in cement at the entrance to the McEwans hardware store at 393-403 Bourke Street. Upon the re-branding of McEwans hardware store to Bunnings, the City of Melbourne Art and Heritage Collection acquired a number of these impressed concrete slabs from the original celebrity pavement.

"Singer-comedian Barry Crocker (born 1935) was the star of the TV variety shows ‘The Barry Crocker Show’ (1966-67) and ‘Say it with Music’ (1967-69). He branched out into acting in an episode of ‘Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo’. Crocker was in Melbourne in October 1972 to promote the movie ‘The Adventures of Barry McKenzie’, in which he starred. The imprint of a beer can in the plaque is a wink at Crocker's persona the movie." - Robyn Annear, 2023
