Troy Innocent, Cloud, photography, Hosier Lane, 2005
Summary
Troy Innocent’s work operates at the intersection of the actual and the virtual. Cloud presents a view through Melbourne’s famous Hosier Lane, home to street art as well as Victorian-era cobblestones. Overhead a multitude of digital signs hover in space and mingle with the fractal forms of Federation Square’s Atrium. Their colours represent three factions in the ‘Micronation of Ludea’, which has colonised the city of Melbourne. Innocent explains Ludea as ‘that space you go to when you are “in-game”, in the zone, or otherwise immersed in play’. Perhaps virtual data such as this will offer new ways of navigating our city in a not-too-distant future.
