Summary

Replica of the Liberty Bell, with the following description of the history of the Liberty Bell on the base. "Originally ordered to commemorate the 50th year of Pennsylvania under Penn’s Charter of 1701, the bell was cast by Thos. Lister of London, arriving here in 1752. It was to be hung in the tower of the Pa. State House. Cracked during testing, the bell was melted and recast by two Philadelphia foundry-men, Pass & Stone. On July 4, 1776 the newly written declaration Independence was read to the Continental Congress in the State House. Four days later the bell was rung to alert the people to the public reading of the Declaration. As a result, the Pa. State House has become known as Independence Hall and the bell, the revered symbol of the occasion, became our Liberty Bell.”
