Larry LaTrobe, Pamela Irving, 1992, 1996
Summary
Larry LaTrobe was conceived as a Percent for Art public artwork first located on Swanston Street. That version was stolen in 1995 and a second bronze casting of Larry was made and installed in City Square in 1996. This life-size dingo-like dog currently surveys street activity outside Melbourne Town Hall, where it was re-located in 2018. Larry LaTrobe the public artwork is in the City’s collection.
Larry quickly worked his way into Melbourne’s imagination and artist Pamela Irving sought to satisfy the public’s desire for ‘more Larry’ with a series of models, of which this is one. There are significant differences between this Larry and the outdoor original – most obviously, the model has a collar.
