Photography

Usually regarded as a medium – the means of creating an image – photography in this collection is also a thematic category, as the city is the overwhelming subject. There are portraits, panoramas, street photography and event-based photography from royal visits to Moomba, taken by both amateurs and professionals alike. Council employees have also taken photographs to record anything from street signage to pot holes – images that are simultaneously prosaic and utterly absorbing. And then there is photography as contemporary art. This includes extensive series by Zoe Ali and Louis Porter.
