Summary

Framed black-and-white photograph of 1970 Moomba King, Johnny Famechon. Johnny Famechon, born in 1945, became the world featherweight boxing champion in 1969, after defeating the Cuban Jose Legra, and is apparently the only such champion not to have been knocked out. He became the Victorian featherweight champion in 1964 and the Commonwealth featherweight champion in 1967. He gained 56 wins during his career, 20 of which were by knock out. In 1970, the year after attaining his world title, the French-born boxer (then named Jean-Pierre Famechon) became the first Melburnian to ascend the throne of the Moomba King. He was badly injured in 1991, when he was hit by a car while he was jogging in Sydney.
