Summary

Half length portrait of Cr Luxton, (Lord Mayor 1928-31). Daniel Harold Luxton was born in Bendigo in 1888. He served in WWI in the A.I.F and R.A.F. He was Chairman of Directors of Jas. McEwan and Co. Ltd. hardware merchants, on the board of several other companies, and was a noted breeder of racehorses. Elected to the Lonsdale Ward in 1919, he remained a member of the Council for 24 years. He was Lord Mayor 1928-31 and knighted in 1932. He was an Australian delegate at the meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Rome in 1949, when Melbourne was chosen as the place for the 1956 Olympic Games. From 1930 to 1935 he represented Caulfield electorate in the Legislative Assembly. He died in 1957 at the age of 69.
