Summary

Lecki (Alexis) Ord holds the distinction of being the first woman to hold the position Lord Mayor of Melbourne. Ord, an architect, was Lord Mayor over the period 1987-1988 and was particularly instrumental in relation to new Council directions in planning, design and environmental matters. Artist Anne Spudvilas is perhaps best known as an illustrator of children’s books but she is also an established portrait painter having had commissions from the City of Melbourne and the State Government of Victoria. Her portraits have also been selected for Australia’s premier portrait prizes, the Archibald and the Doug Moran.
