Summary

This drawing depicts the flowers and leaves of a red gum tree, and the lifecycle stages of the red gum jumping plant louse. The nymph is pictured in a lerp - a hard structure made from wax and honeydew made by the nymph to protect it from predators. The white dots on the eucalypt leaves represent the scaly white dots that indicate the presence of plant lice on a plant. The illustration was drawn by Kate Cranney for the City of Melbourne's publication 'The Little Things that Run the City'. The book explores the diversity of insects we have within our city’s boundaries and examines what we can do to help them survive and thrive.
