Summary

Purple, slubbed, silk-like fabric with gold and silver trim and collar. The trim is fairly elaborate and has green 'gems' embedded. The robe is lined with gold lame. This robe seems to have been worn by successive kings from 1985 and also by the Monarchs, post 1987. Ian "Molly" Meldrum is the first king whose portrait shows him wearing this costume. Prior to this, photographs show kings wore robes that appear to be velvet, with a faux ermine collar, and matching crown. Some of the early king portraits are black and white, but those taken in colour and according to newspaper descriptions indicate two or three other robes were used through the years.
