Summary

Ceramic, ovoid body on a raised circular foot. Blue ground, the body decorated with two wide bands of continuous scenes, one of flying geese the other a rural lakeside. The scene is modern. This vase is from the Meiji period (1868-1912). Satsuma ware originated in Japan in the late 16th century. Subsequent to a display at the international exhibition in Paris in 1867, it became popular in Europe. Satsuma ware is still made today.
