Summary

This casket is for housing the illuminated scroll conferring Honary Freedom to the City of Melbourne for Richard Gardiner, Baron Casey. Melbourne craftsmen produced the piece from Australian maple with silver inlays. The hand-carved seagull on the casket's top is a replica of Lord Casey's crest, described in the blazoning of his personal arms as 'A seagull wings expanded proper'.
