Summary

Kenny Pittock is a master at nailing the truths that make the everyday such a delightfully absurd world in which to live. His disarming humour erupts in the coupling of visual elements with playful and insightful titles and captions. Take his ‘Self-portrait as a Flat White’, for example; it’s hard to think of another artist who would treat their subject in quite this manner. In a city whose residents live and die by the particularity of their at-least-daily caffeine fix, to draw such an idiosyncratic form of identification is not such a long bow. This ceramic sculpture was made in 2015 and entered the Art and Heritage Collection soon after. The collection holds several other milkbar-related ceramic sculptures by Pittock, as well as a suite of his of his pen-and-ink drawings, which you can find through the search function of this website.
