Summary

Large mustard brown ceramic jug by Hoffman Ware Australia commemorating the Melbourne Centenary 1934. This fine example is the smaller of two sized jugs produced by Hoffman Ware (Melrose) in 1934 to commemorate the Centenary of the European Settlement of Melbourne. Raised profiles of John Pascoe Fawkner and John Batman appear to alternate sides of the jug below banner reading "Melbourne Centenary 1934". The famous Batman quote "This will be the place for a village" appears in raised lettering between the two men. This piece is beautifully marked to the base with a black "Hoffman Ware" stamp.
