Summary

Framed colour photograph of 1986 Moomba King, Peter Brock. Peter Brock (1945–2006) built a considerable reputation in Australian motor racing. He won the Bathurst 1000 a record nine times to 1987, the Sandown 500 nine times and the Australian Touring Car Championship three times. The former of these triumphs earned him the title King of the Mountain. In 1986 he gained the title King of Moomba. Over a 40-year racing career Brock was most closely associated with Holden, although at times he raced other cars. In 1980 he received a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the sport of motor racing and in 2001 he received a Centenary Medal for outstanding service to the community through fundraising. In March 2006, Peter Brock was killed while racing in the Targa West rally in Western Australia.
