Summary

Framed colour studio photograph of 1984 royalty, Kevin Bartlett and Kim Kermonde. Barlett played Australian Rules Football for Richmond between 1965 and 1983, kicking 778 goals. The year after he left the field he was crowned Moomba King. Kermonde (now Scowcroft) reigned as queen in the period that the notion of a beauty queen was being questioned for its outdated gender politics. While representing the festival, and by extension the Melbourne City Council, she said endured the mayor's obvious ambivalence towards her for the role she represented (telephone conversation 7 March 2008). She now works in PR and is married to ABC radio host Richard Stubbs.
