Summary

This hand-illustrated poster depicts two wasps playing a game of cards inside an overflowing rubbish bin. The poster was likely made to be used as part of a council waste-management campaign, however the exact reason for its production is not known.

"A surreal sketch illustrates antagonism towards co-habitation with other life forms we cannot control. It shows what appear to be two European wasps, a now dominant non-native species in Australia, inside a rubbish bin playing cards. No records or accession information can be found about the drawing, or when and why it was made. The image might have been part of a council waste-management campaign, reminding people to put the lid on their garbage, preventing wasps getting in." - Sean Lynch, Desire Lines exhibition catalogue
